"Remote work is the future of work."
Since COVID-19 hit our world, several companies have switched to a more remote work form. Gone are the days of driving to the office; now, individuals can work from home or anywhere they can access the internet.
Screen sharing has become widely popular in the remote world. Allowing your client to get an "insider" look at the project (especially regarding video editing) will enable them to make real-time edits and eliminate the back and forth from email, texting, or communication errors via phone calls.
But how does it work?
A few weeks ago, I worked with someone from KIX101.1/ KFJB in Marshalltown, IA. A few weeks before this incident, I had wrapped up filming a TV commercial for the client. Several hours before the video went live, I got an email from the client asking if it was possible to change up the video. Since I could not make the drive to Marshalltown and knew he could not make it to Nevada in time, I suggested an alternative solution.
A Remote Editing Session.
A few hours later, I hopped on my computer and sent him the google drive link. Moments later, my client showed up on the screen. After brief salutations, I shared my screen, and we began.
Over the next hour, my client could watch the video live, make suggestions, and see the footage in a different narrative. As I worked, I got answers in real-time concerning style and font choices and made suggestions that countered his while bringing in my experience in the field.
While I edited, I kept an eye on my client, watching his body language. At first, he was apprehensive about remote editing; I 100% understood his feeling. Though my generation is prone to work remotely, the generation before us still prefers things done a certain way.
Having operated remotely and in person, I miss having that personal interaction with a fellow teammate.
While there are extreme benefits of being in an office with a team aiming towards the same goal, life does not always allow such an opportunity, and adjustment is the name of the game. Life gets busy; people must move and adjust their schedules due to kids, prior commitments, etc.
And with ever-changing deadlines, taking advantage of such opportunities as remote editing can be beneficial.
As creators, we have the cumbersome task of solving problems through our designs and videos. So please take advantage of the tools at your disposal to work smarter and engage in a new discord.
Technology is great.
Let's use it to continue creating content for the thriving social media world.
